What's on for Synod in York
THE GENERAL SYNOD, meeting at York University 7-11 July, will inevitably be dominated by two crucial debates on women in the episcopate.
Assuming that the earlier motion on women bishops is passed, the whole of Monday morning will be given to exploring the necessary practical and legislative arrangements. The motion will ask the dioceses to continue their debate on the subject, and the Archbishops' Council to start preparing a draft of possible legislation. All options will be open, said Mr Fittall. There was no doubt that mostmembers want to continue, he said, but only if the highest degree of unity can be maintained. The process will take longer and it will be "several years before we reach legislation"
Ordained Anglican. Thinking out loud about church.
